I have experienced the same in Eastern Wisconsin. Sadly, but true. If an slp has any real knowledge and exkperience with stuttering, she or he would not ever say a child who is experiencing any severity level of stuttering should be denied therapy. I could go on and on about this position if anyone would care to discuss it further. SLPs are ususally the only ones who can understand and support these children and their families from the onset of stuttering, and when we turn our backs on them, the impact can be long lasting and who knows how detrimental it can be. The data gathered in this paper supports that when we refuse to provide guidance and support for these children and their families, the children pay for our ignorance. Let's open our eyes to the message gleaned from this paper.
