Hi John, I found your research very interesting. In my first semester of graduate school, I worked with a 14 year old boy who stuttered. At the end of the semester, I recommended he continue therapy for the next semester. He stated that he did not want to return to therapy for the next semester and his parents told him that was not an option and he would be receiving services the next semester. I talked to his therapist the next semester, where she stated he would not work on any techniques with her and was very rude. I understand the parents concern to keep their son in therapy but clearly his therapy experience was not benefiting him. At what age, do you think it is appropriate for children/ teens to make their own choices when it comes to receiving services? When should parents back off and let their child make their own decisions? What are your thoughts on dismissing against the parents wishes? Thanks! Lauren
