It surprises and upsets me to see such disparity, with the parental statistic falling so far below the teen statistic, on the “impact to school” survey item. I'd like to think that the parents would see the true impact fluency issues can have on children and accept it fully. It also seems a bit odd that the parent response on the embarrassment question would be higher than that of the PWS. This makes me question the emotional play of the parents of teens who stutter and wonder if there is some sort of guilt or anger or sense of responsibility that the parents are transferring here. Are they at some level embarrassed to have a child who stutters so they assume the child must be embarrassed as well? Just a thought.
