Thanks for your kind words, Julie! I have used this activity with students up to 8th grade; however, that is a great idea to use it with high school students. There are several "court" competitions for high school (Moot Court, Mock Trial). The activity could be adjusted to resemble these and increase the maturity level. I also really like your idea of using it for homework and involving the parents. Thanks for your great ideas!
