Wow Tom! You raise some intriguing points. I have not used the activity with this population, so I will need to rely on your expertise. I can see that it could turn into a hostile reaction to the activity. Although, we do understand perspective better when we put ourselves in the role of the other person. Perhaps playing the role of the jury, adviser or judge would provide these kids with the understanding of someone feeling "violated". Again, this is not the population that I have used it with and it could back fire. Another activity that I have used with kids is called "excuses". The kids are presented with different situations that they need to find "excuses" for...like being late for school, not doing the homework, stuttering in front of the class. It provides a way for kids to talk through stuttering (and other) situations without being as confrontational. Plus, it's realistic--kids need to learn how to explain their way out of a situation. Thanks for adding your expertise!
