I looked at the people who are close to me, and I realized that it doesn't matter to them if I stutter. This helped me to realize that it doesn't have to matter to me either. If I can successfully communicate with others, then I don't need to worry about it. To other college students who stutter - in my 21 years as a person who stutters, I have boiled my issues with stuttering down to two things: failure to communicate, and fear of ridicule. I was glad to discover through therapy and experience that most people are friendly, and they don't want to ridicule you. With this in mind, you can feel free to stutter openly as long as you are able to successfully communicate.
