I think that your article gives a great insight into what “acceptance” of stuttering means. I think the reason many people may think accepting stuttering is ridiculous because they assume that acceptance means stopping working towards improving communication ease and effectiveness. I think people who stutter and professionals who work with them do not take this as the meaning of acceptance. Accepting that ‘stuttering’ is going to happen, but still actively working towards improving communication techniques and attitudes is so important. The goal of therapy and practice needs to be realistic and focus on things that can be improved. Trying to eliminate disfluencies all together may be impossible, but improving the attitudes and feelings that come along with them is definitely something that is within reach!
