Dear Jessica and Kristen, As I said in few of my previous responses, If SLPs come across individuals who have started accepting their stutter, then I feel, SLPs should encourage them to talk more about it... with parents, spouses, relations and friends. Speaking about your stammer is like coming out of the bog in which the PWS struggles to be in.... SLPs should try to inculcate in them the attitude that it is okay to stammer, by taking the PWS to public for exercises of Voluntary stuttering interviews, conversation with vendors and the likes. Ask them to conduct surveys informing people about stammer and get the feedback. Many PWS will be shocked to see the positive response of the people around. That can clear a lot of myths. Also, SLPs should go by the principal that there is much more to good communication than just fluency !
