Hi, Caryn. Actually, I did give up. I didn't have formal speech therapy between the ages of 14 and 39. I did quite a bit of self therapy, including purchasing an Edinburgh Masker, which was about as much fun as Dick Cheney's waterboarding at Abu Ghraib. I got serious about therapy when I discovered I had a lot to offer my profession. Also, my growing family was an impetus for me. As you know, the teen years are crucial. I never pass up the chance to talk one-on-one or publicly to teenagers who stutter. My message is direct. Do it now because the longer you wait the harder you will have to work to gain your freedom.
