First, I would like to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to learn from you! I am currently a graduate student in speech-language pathology, and I am working with a 5 year old boy who stutters, who also has a father who stutters as well. I noticed that you mentioned both of your children stuttered for at least a period of time, and was wondering if you have any advice that I can pass on to my client and his father about ways to discuss stuttering as a family? My client's father is VERY concerned for his son, and has many questions regarding how he should approach the topic with his son, in addition to concerns with how they should talk about stuttering as a family. Although I have the research that depicts therapy approaches to use with my client, I worry that in this case, without the personal background with stuttering, I am not in a position to coach them on best practice for discussing it together as a family. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for discussing stuttering with young children based on what was beneficial with your children, or how you would have liked your parents to talk to you about stuttering?
