Like Marialyce, I am also a speech language pathology graduate student. I wanted to ask you the same question but she beat me to it! I think you have provided some great advice to future SLPs. In my fluency class, my professor has stressed the importance of addressing each client who stutters as an individual in almost every class period. Although it would be nice to have one therapy model that applies to everyone, this just is not realistic! I have talked to my professor multiple times about how he provides treatment to stuttering and he says that even now, his views still change on stuttering meaning that the more people he meets, the more he learns that stuttering is highly individualized and no two people are alike! I currently have a four year old client who stutters and I feel that I have started to learn how unique each person who stutters really is. Thank you for your advice, and I will be sure to treat my future clients who stutter as individual people and not just place them under the stuttering diagnoisis and treat them like I would everyone else who stutters. -Haley
