Hi Jen Thanks for your response. Yes, voluntary stuttering is probably the thing that is helping me most. Not easy to do but it definitely helps me with acceptance and freeing me from the shame. Because of my particular history, any fluency technique designed to stop you from stuttering feeds into my need to hide stuttering, so I don't find them all that helpful. I do use pausing quite a bit - just speaking normally but pausing between short phrases. This controls my rate which really helps. The pauses also help me to work through any stutters I do have, rather than just pushing out of them very fast in the hope that nobody noticed. But if I use the pausing technique to make me fluent, I will start to feel more shame and want to hide the stuttering more. I hope that makes sense.
