Hi Lisette! It was the title of your paper, “Riding My Bike - From Shame to Freedom,” that really caught my attention. I think it is beautiful that your journey led you to discover freedom, and be an authentic communicator. I can only imagine the fear and anxiety associated with trying to hide how you speak, and it is incredible to read how far you have courageously come. In your story, you commented that you wanted to find a speech therapist who understood stuttering from the inside. I am a graduate student studying to be a speech language pathologist, and I will not forget your comment. Discovering what is occurring on the inside, and trying my best to understand will definitely be a goal in my future therapy sessions. Also, I think there is great comfort in being able to speak with others who can relate to your personal experiences, which is why I am so thankful for conferences! Thank you Lisette for sharing your story!
