Hi Lisette, I was moved by your story. The fact that you were able to write in such an open manner is, I feel, a clear indication of the increased level of acceptance that you have now attained in relation to your stuttering. I have benefited immensely from a policy of greater openness that I adopted in 2000. Speaking about my personal difficulties has had a hugely desensitizing effect. It has also been my experience that many people (not just those who stutter) can gain a great deal from learning about the paths that others have trodden (or cycled). So, thank you for sharinhg. I hope you will forgive me for saying that I feel the title of your paper (‘Riding my bike...) is most apt. It describes the route that you have travelled while facing the dual challenge of living in tandem with blindness and stuttering, I wish you well as you continue to steer yourself from shame to freedom. Lisette, you are an inspiration to many. Kindest regards Alan
