Lisette, Thank you so much for sharing your story. Reading your paper was a truly enlightening experience for me. I am a graduate student studying speech-language pathology, and there is only so much we can learn from attending a class and talking about PWS. I learn best from hearing stories like yours, with insightful anecdotes and wonderful descriptions of events and the emotions that were involved. Your words make it “real”. I am so glad for you that you were able to find support in your life that helped to change your thoughts and values associated with stuttering. I wonder though, do you think things would have been different for you growing up if you would have been surrounded by more positive thoughts about stuttering? If your parents would have tried to accept that you stuttered, and let you know that it was okay, do you think you would have had a better life? This is important information for me to consider, because I am interested in the impact of families and how they play a role in the child’s view of stuttering.
