Hi Anelise, thank you for your time, research, and input. I am a 1st year speech-language pathologist student and worked with my 1st fluency client yesterday during a diagnostic. I noticed a very subtle aspiration before phonation with this child. I also noticed vocal fold tension (that almost sounded like he was trying to catch his breath. One assumption that I have is that this is caused by pre-phonatory activity. What I'm unsure about it is...what is causing this activity in terms of the brain (origin), everything in between, and muscle contraction. Your guidance is greatly appreciated!
