Here at West Virginia University we have been doing our part to spread the word about International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD). For years, Dr. Ken St. Louis has led a weekly Stuttering Therapy Group that is free to both University students and to the public. Graduate and undergraduate Speech Pathology students are welcome to come and learn more about stuttering and the stress that a person who stutters may cope with daily. At the group meetings members are able to tell their story, their goals for the future, and role play for difficult situations. For the online conference we created brochures and posted them around West Virginia University’s campus, Fairmont State University’s campus and the surrounding areas. The brochure includes a description of the International Stuttering Awareness Day Online Conference, the Bill of Rights and Responsibilities of People who Stutter, and information about the local Stuttering Therapy Group. Twenty brochures were distributed as well as a poster. The intention of distributing the brochures and poster is to encourage people to participate in ISAD and inform people who stutter about the resources that are available.
