It really is interesting how both the stuttering community and the disability community can be at odds with each other. But just as the disability community learned from the civil rights movement, we can learn from the disability rights movement, even if people don't identify with it. I also think that the perception and definition of disability is shifting. It took me a while to convince my colleagues in the disability field that stuttering is a disability, but look at other speech disorders Most people would say that Aphasia is a disability, so why not stuttering?
