It would make interactions easier if people accepted and realized the difficulties of people who stutter. However, a person who does not want the stutter to become an identity may feel that the term “disability” boxes him or her into a label. If stuttering is viewed as a disability, do you think that someone who stutters would be more likely to not acknowledge the stutter in order to prevent stuttering becoming a central part of one’s life? In other words, do you think that terming stuttering as a disability may make some people who stutter less likely to acknowledge difficulties that are due to the stutter?
