There are chronic stutterers, stutterers who are very good communicators and a wide range in between. I class myself as a good, improving, communicator. Because I can communicate, I always try to speak out to help those who are not as able to speak for themselves. If you look at all the other types of disability, again there is a wide spectrum of degree of disability and a wide spectrum of how each disabled person lives with the disability. (Look at the Para Olympics in London UK. The Olympians wore their disability with great pride and showed a very positive approach to life. Because of disability awareness many legal requirements exist to assist disabled people to live life. One simple example which could help a disabled chronic stutterer is pen and paper. If all reception staff / waiters / police / etc were legally required to have a pad and pen available to anyone with any kind of speech disorder then that would relieve massive tension and help some of us to go out more and live happier lives. No stutterer has to use the pad and pen, but to have the free choice. to use or not, reduces pressure. Even though I feel less disabled than most, I accept the label and try to help others who need more help. Beth and Nina, It is so good that you have sparked this discussion.Well done. Keith
