I am a graduate student in a communication disorders program and I am looking forward to working in the "not-so-distant future" as a speech-language therapist. Your article inspired my curiosity and I am now more interested in learning about legal protection for persons with disabilities. I enjoyed your article very much and I am amazed by the many positive stories and gains that are associated with the disability label, especially for qualified PWS. Unfortunately, for some fluency clients, can the disability label give them an excuse to feel more “hopeless” about their situation? Nina, I love all comedians and enjoy being with people who are funny and bring laughter to the table. I read somewhere that comedy routines and jokes may sometimes be therapeutic or empowering. Is this true for you as well? Again, I enjoyed your article.
