Beth and Nina, I really enjoyed reading your conversation on this topic. Something I took from it was how accepting the label of having a disability can be a point of pride, for example, sharing membership in a group with Oscar Pistorius. The difficult part of the label is the negative connotations it carries with it. Unfortunately, negative associations with disability have built up over centuries. It is only very recently that they have started to break down as a result of the battle for rights and protections for PWD. Do you have any predictions about whether PWS will begin to accept the disability label more readily as the stigma with it continues to lessen?
