Thanks for your comments, Alan! Good to hear from you! I hope you realize that the wheel being invented was just the first step toward these protections because without the wheel, we wouldn't have the wheelchair, and without the wheelchair, we wouldn't need laws that require curb cuts, ramps and elevators! :-) And you do raise a good point that the label of 'disability' a bit of a sticky wicket (to use a Britishism), in that it can both protect you and cause discrimination. My take on it is that if you are going to stutter in the workplace or school, the label can only help you. Even if, as David S says in his replies to this essay, there have been no successful legal cases for PWS, the designation can serve as a form of protection. And education about what stuttering is can help in that regard.
