Hi Carmen, I looked back on the way my father treated my stammer sometimes with heartache. He didn't want his son to stutter. He would make me feel I was such a let down to him. Showing care and understanding was not his strong point I'm afraid. When my boys began to stammer I was devastated, the thought I had handed my stammer to them and they might have to go through the teenage years like I did was the last thing I wanted for them. I told my wife to read to them every night make sure they asked questions and keep praising them. We would never make an issue of the stammer and just repeated the word they had trouble with. However never making them repeat the word,I didn't want them to think they were doing anything wrong. Within two years it was just like they had never stuttered. Hope that helps, regards Richard.
