In modern psychology we say that the goal of a therapist is to teach the client to become his own therapist. I commend you for having the courage to become your own therapist without any direct guidance. My road has been similar. Based on Wendell Johnson's and General Semantics as well as Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, I have arrived at where I truly unconditionally accept myself, whether I stutter or not. Fortunately by really overlearning desensitization (I do a voluntary pseudo stutter or Iowa Bounce at the drop of a hat) and teaching and re-teaching not to give a darn about what others think of me, I am experiencing more and more time of spontaneous fluency. But sometimes I revert to managed fluency-meaning forward moving speech focusing on monitoring tenseness and proprioception. Don't you agree that overlearning unconditional acceptance is one of the main keys of success?
