I am currently in graduate school to become a speech-language pathologist and I love that you brought up that you would have wanted your clinician to voluntarily stutter. We had a whole project in my fluency course where we had to practice stuttering convincingly and then stutter in multiple public places. It introduced us to mild anxiety and planning that we had to do to if we were trying to stutter or not stutter in a convincing way. Obviously it was easier for us because we can stop stuttering while a PWS does not have the choice, but it really opened up my mind to the way that a person who is trying to hide their stuttering may avoid all interaction or specific situations, even professions, that they would not be able to control stuttering in. I did wonder what a person who stutters would think about us pseudo-stuttering, if it is insulting or if it helps that we are able to willingly place ourselves in a state of discomfort. It is good to know that at least some people who stutter think that it is valuable that we are able and willing to stutter ourselves.
