Hi Bridget, thanks for your feedback and question, I'll try to answer. For me, just speech therapy on its own didn't work; for some it does, for me it was more than speech. What helped me in my teens was meeting others who stuttered, to see I wasn't alone in the struggle. What helped later in life, was having someone else saying to me how I saw my stutter. And it took me a few months to realise I wasn't thinking straight, I needed to desensitize myself. That worked for me, but I think it's important an SLP can see where the problem lies, what helpes the person in front of them. Good luck...
