I can relate to what you said about how being a person who stutters has made you a better dentist, because you are a better listener and can understand other people’s fears. I was always a poor student from kindergarten to my senior year in high school. It wasn’t that I was delinquent; I just had very poor attending and comprehension skills. Those difficulties that I had for the entirety of my childhood up until my early twenties, has helped me to empathize as a teacher when working with children with disabilities. I can always put myself in their shoes and remember the feelings of frustration and confusion I had during school. I’m glad that you brought that point up. It was validating to see that you believe in something that is so important to me, and I’m happy that you are utilizing this knowledge to help your patients.
