I am very surprised every time I hear that someone thinks he/she is a covert stutterer. In my opinion, stuttering is impossible to hide, at least to people who know something about stuttering. Of course many don't, but I do think that if you for example is in a relationship and try to hide your stuttering, you will be using a lot of energy in vain. I think that if someone who is trying to hide their stuttering thinks he or she is successful, it is simply because the listener is embarrassed to bring it up. I am happily married to a man who stutters, and thank God he never tried to hide it (he could not have fooled me anyways, so why bother.)
