Hi Liv, That is great to hear of your respect toward your husband who stutters. You may be surprised by the number of people who have successfully hidden their stutter. As you said they may think they are successful since “the listener is embarrassed to bring it up,” although once PWSC do mention their stutter with others, many of those listeners would deny that the speaker stutters. Honestly, to the PWSC face they say, “No. You don’t stutter.” This is the scenario for many. Also, you mentioned they may be “using a lot of energy in vain.” A term I have heard from PWSC in describing why they continue to hide their stutter is “shame.” We are each on our own journey, let’s be kind to each other in the process.
