I have ?'s and comments but I'm not sure of where to start! How about 2 very different covert's and their differing scenarios? One who noone could guess stuttered (or thought it was "cute" per the PWSC) but when she arrived home from work found herself so exhausted she could find relief only by turning off any form of communication (which became a problem when her son was old enough to want to talk when both were home). The other was 22 and flew from Australia to Miami first to see her mom; she told her mom she was going to see me for her stuttering .... mom totally surprised and saying: You've never stuttered!. She did see me and was very successful in hiding any hint of stuttering until nudged.... and out it came, big time. She did not really like that it came out but then said she had to decide to spend her money on therapy or on seeing the States (which had been her 1st goal, per her). Choice in hand, she left... to travel. Which is succesful and happy? I gather neither, but ... both chose to be and to remain covert, while being very aware of the discomforts, to say the least. What is success? Each authored their lives as stutterers; did the ego choose the pain of being covert above the stigma of being overt? I do wonder. Any ideas?
