I really enjoyed the way you described covert stuttering and the feelings of anxiety in relation to keeping something hidden. I am a graduate student at Illinois State University and I have had experience with a person who is a covert stutterer. Reading your article gave me some insight into how difficult it must be for a person to let people know about their stutter and how it will make them different from others. My past experience with a covert stutterer showed me he was not going to “come out” to anyone in the near future. How do you talk about this topic with a client without recommending it?
