Jill - What a great article you have written! This article has opened my eyes to many ideas that I have not thought of before. What a great analogy you used with the "coming out of the closet." As a graduate student, who may soon be working with a PWSC, I think it is important to fully understand the feelings and emotions behind their behaviors, in order to effectively offer my help and knowledge. Coincidently, I have my own story of "coming out" and know the fear and struggle I went through to avoid the social stigma attached to my label. My question for you is, do you think it would be more beneficial to the PWSC to first "come out" and relieve some of the societal pressures and feelings of shame, before delving into speech therapy techniques? Would therapy be more effective if they took this route? Thanks again and I look forward to your response.
