This article is for me up and down! I love it and when I first saw the title, among any other conference topic....I immediately was floored snd interested in reading it. So, my question to the author is....."What is a safe and ethical way that I can help a covert stutterer to simply start talking, regardless of embarrassment or shame around their peers or work environment?" Is there a bona fide documented or evidence-based way to counsel a covert stutter to come out of the closet to ensure a better prognosis for therapy? Otherwise, I would find it very easy to relate my gay experience of 'coming out' to perhaps an an adult stutter client as long as I know that I am not violating ASHA's code of ethics. Thank you.
