I think the title of the article "Covert Stuttering:Coming Out of the Closet" is a very appropriate metaphor. Covert stutters like overt stutters feel the same stress and anxiety. Covert stutters are able to hide within a "closet" because it is much easier to go unnoticed. Using this terminology may help other individuals who see themselves as "in the closet" become more accepting of people who covertly stutter thus allowing these individuals to have more support and become more open about their struggles.
