Thank you for writing this. I was not previously aware of the idea of "covert" stuttering. I especially enjoyed your analysis and comparison to persons with other exceptionalities and the choice to stay in or come out of "the closet." It seems to me, the essential difference here between stuttering and stuttering covertly the idea of identity synthesis. In effect, the difference between PWS but successfully use fluency facilitating controls and those who otherwise are able to hide thier stuttering the majority of time is that the former has identified as a PWS and has sought treatment, whereas the latter has not. Is that, in essence the difference?
