Hi David, many people who stutter covertly (PWSC) must work very hard to hide their stuttering. Sometimes PWSC actually seek therapy in hopes of improving their ability to hide... in these cases, they usually are due for a rude awakening, when the therapist explains that their hiding problem is much bigger than their stuttering problem. And you’re absolutely right, when PWSC do begin to ‘come out’, family and close friends is usually a good place to start. Also, connecting with the stuttering community, such as through a local NSA chapter, can have a profound impact on this process.
