I am a graduate student in a communication disorders program and I am looking forward to working in the “not-so-distant” future as a speech-language therapist. I am just beginning to learn about the emotional struggles associated with stuttering and thought it was very helpful that you connected the struggles associated with disclosing one’s sexuality to the struggles associated with disclosing one’s disability. Your article brings to light the difficulties with disclosing personal information about oneself especially when the listening audience doesn’t foster personal or emotional conversations. Therefore, what simple steps can school systems or employment settings do to help facilitate a more comfortable climate for the stuttering population? Again, I enjoyed your article.
