Jill, I really appreciated your article. I am a graduate student in communication disorders and I lesbian -- as I have learned more about stuttering and meet PWS, I find myself making mental connections between what I hear from them and the experiences of people in the LGBT community. For example, some people's experience shame or fear or the importance of finding others for support (e.g. becoming part of the LGBT community or becoming involved with the NSA). As you pointed out, there are some important similarities between the two groups (and obviously differences as well). I really appreciate you adopting the "coming out" metaphor; before reading your article, I had similar thoughts, but was skeptical of whether the stuttering community would be comfortable with the analogy. Have you heard any negative reactions from PWS regarding your ideas?
