Hi Mary Kate, thank you for sharing your clinical reflection with me! Honestly, the focus should be instead on you being okay with your client who is not ready to come out. Meet them where they are and know what is one step ahead for them. You will find this out by talking to them. Suggesting that coming out to a person in their family or friends is the next step may be a long term goal… or it may not be. In reality, haven’t they taken a huge leap in acknowledging their reality just by arriving in your clinic and talking to you? Let’s give credit where credit is deserved. Focus on what they are already doing to help themselves. Kind regards, Jill j.douglass@massey.ac.nz
