Hi Molli, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Covert stuttering is a real form of stuttering and stuttering is a speech impairment. So, yes anyone whom is actively hiding their stuttering whom is seeking therapy is approaching you with valid concerns. You said, “Should I approach them…” Personally, I never approach someone and suggest therapy. Instead, if a person asks what I do, I am honest and tell them I am a SLP. If conversation ensues, I am mindful of the individual who stutters as the expert on their stuttering. I would only work with the information that they present to me in conversation and actively listen to what they are saying. Kind regards, Jill
