Hi LeeAnne, thank you for sharing your journey. Stuttering is complex, individuals are even more complex! Everyone has their own journey with stuttering, as you explained regarding yourself. Covert stuttering is not clearly defined. A working definition based on pieces and parts of published research and my own dissertation would suggest that covert stuttering is going to any means to not allow a moment of stuttering to occur; the emotional and cognitive response to a moment of stuttering is significantly disproportionate to the audible moment of stuttering; typically a cognitive feature of covert stuttering is not saying what you want to say in order to avoid stuttering. Again, this is just a simplified off-the-cuff response to your question. Delve deeper into covert stuttering! See what you discover! Kind regards, Jill
