Hi CB, thanks for your thoughts. I would work with the client who is in front of me. Typically if a person arrives and covertly stutters, then counselling will be a major component in my therapy sessions. Covertly stuttering can run rather deep in the thought process of a person. The behavioural component is just scratching the surface of the big picture. When a client doesn’t want to “fully cooperate” as you suggested, that may be a warning flag that you are not working with the client in front of you, you may be working on what you deem as necessary rather than what the client truly needs. I have found David Luterman’s work informative and helpful in strengthening my counselling approaches. Kind regards, Jill
