Hi Ashley, thanks for your insightful question. As SLPs we can play a role in helping the coming out process less isolating and helpless. We can help shed light on what the person is doing that is solution focused. We can lend an open ear; listen with compassion and no judgement. We cannot take away the pain and anxiety from the individual, we are not super heroes. We can guide a person on their current thought process, challenge them beyond where they are (ever so cautiously) and help them see the good in what they do. Kind regards, Jill
