Hi Carol, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Working on fluency techniques while trying to gain acceptance of a stutter may be counter-productive for some. Essentially, the emphasis for a PWSC should be on (1) counselling the emotional and cognitive elements, (2) communication and (3) fluency, with primary emphasis on #1. I agree, if we continue to worship the fluency gods with a PWSC we are sending them a mixed message. If anything, if there is an increase in stuttering that is suggesting they are saying what they want to say with the risk of stuttering, and that is success!! We want to emphasize that saying what you want to say when you want to say it, is their right that they deserve. Kind regards, Jill
