Thank you. For children 5-10 years, you really want to prevent the development of "shame of stuttering" from which avoidance behaviors appear. For children, ages 3-6-7, I always tell them "It's OK to have BUMPS in your speech and it's going to get better". I encourage parents to do that also. For old children, ages 7-8-9-10, I tell them "It's OK to have BUMPS in your speech. It's not your fault. It just happens." Again, this is to prevent SHAME of stuttering which leads to avoidance behaviors. I encourage parents to do the same. I also start using the "Stuttering Survey" with a clip board and pencil. It gets these older children to talk about stuttering and avoid hiding it. If you want a copy of the survey, please send me an email at jjjudithe@msn.com . I do not do voluntary stuttering with this 5-10 year age group. J-J-Judith
