Ms. Eckardt, Thanks for sharing some great tips and insight into how to better serve our clients who stutter. I am currently a grad student and a lot of what you had to say, I was able to relate back to my fluency class. Could you expand on the suggestion of helping the person who stutters work on eye contact with the listener? Does it relate to eliminating avoidance behavior? I question if it has to do with avoidance behavior, because one of our tasks for class was to pseudostutter in public. After I had pseudostuttered, I reverted to some avoidance behaviors because I wasn't prepared for what the cashier had asked me and it was easier for me to resort to the avoidance behavior of just nodding rather than answering them.
