Hi Alicia, Thank you for your response. Inside therapy what is the most difficult obstacle to overcome ? I think this is your question. Most people who stutter come to therapy to obtain fluency or are chasing the "Fluency God". Helping them realize that more fluency will be obtained by working on "fears and avoidances" rather than just practicing techniques is a real challenge. Often the most successful people are those who have failed several times to obtain fluency by just practicing techniques. Sometimes they have spent thousands of dollars. Finally, they just throw in the towel and are willing to try eliminating fears and avoidances. Some people never reach that point and just leave. This has happened to me. To get a person to work on fears and avoidances, I like to start with the Stuttering Survey. If you send me an email at jjjudithe@msn.com , I will send you a copy of the Stuttering Survey.
