Wow, this has been a really helpful post for me as a student in speech-language pathology. I completely agree that we need to work with clients on the "under the surface" aspects of stuttering. I think it is so crucial for us to measure success in progress not recovery. Even if a client successfully avoids avoidance behaviors twice in a conversation that is more than zero. It is our job to help them understand this. I completely agree that ours clients who stutter must feel free to say "what he wants, when he wants, and where he wants" before we can before we can begin to address decreasing the amount of disfluencies. This has been a very helpful post. Thank you for sharing your insight.
