Diane, thank you for this article. I had the good fortune (and good sense) to learn how to teach social skills in stuttering therapy from the late Lena Rustin and her group at the Michael Palin Centre in London. The training and subsequent professional interaction I had with all the professionals there changed how I viewed treating stuttering. We in American universities do not teach very well the importance of social skills training for children and adults who stutter. I believe strongly and have stated so to clients and at professional meetings that learning how to deal with stuttering in real world social situations is as important, if not more so, than "speech therapy" skills. Your article provides excellent tools to accomplish this task. As Lena would say, "Well done!"
